Archive of the Day – Lunchtime!
Like most preemies, Max’s gut wasn’t quite ready for use at birth. While he had the NG tube for the bulk of his NICU stay, he was able to start working with a bottle at day of life 5 (he was deemed too small and not strong enough to attempt breastfeeding.) His initial feeds were only 5mL – roughly one teaspoon each. He’s now up to 4-6oz each feed – such an amazing feat to go from a teaspoon to 1/2-3/4 cup each feed!
Monday Max – Shopping!
He’s getting so he really enjoys going shopping. For so long, he would get overstimulated with sounds and activities – it’s so nice that he’s actually enjoying the world now.
Bonus Max – Grumple!
Max’s grumpy face. His nickname at times like this is “Grumple.”
Bonus Max – Moose Beenie
Looking pretty happy considering he had gotten his 6-month vaccinations just hours earlier!
Monday Max – Angelic
Taken at Oak Glen, California, one of my most favorite places on earth!
Bonus Max – Superbaby!
Max loves being lifted in to the air like he is flying. We’ll just hold him up there and he giggles and laughs. What’s better is his bib will get spun around and look like a cape. Edna Mode from The Incredibles would disapprove…
From the Archives – Stressed Out
In all of his ultrasound images, he has his hands on his head. This continued to be his thing until well past his EDC. We figured it was one of his comfort signs. Now, he only does this every now and again in his sleep.
Monday Max – Hey There…
He’s starting to master the “hey there, pretty lady” look. I have a feeling that I’ll be fielding a lot of “Is Max there?” phone calls several years form now…
Monday Max – Raspberry!!
Max has not only become quite proficient at sticking out his tongue, but he can now blow raspberries. I’m doomed.
Monday Max – Joyride
Max hit the 5 month mark yesterday. Looking at him now, it’s difficult to see that he was ever a preemie. But every now and then, with a glance or at an angle, I see a quick flash of who he used to be.
Monday Max – Good Morning Sunshine!
I get to see this first thing in the morning. It’s a great way to start a day!
Bonus picture! Happy Tummy Time!
Max has finally decided that tummy time is fun and not a form of ancient baby torture.
As a side note, we’re out of town this month in a small, beautiful location with spotty internet access. There will be a new Monday Max tomorrow, and we’ll continue to update the archives as we can.
Archive of the Day – I’ve Got My Eyes On You
At the urging of our home care nurse, we took Max fr a retinopathy of prematurity exam. Given he had a perfect eye exam, we went out to celebrate at Carrabba’s. As my lunch arrived at the table, I looked up and was greeted with this sight.
Archive of the Day – In My Own Bed Now
One of the first pictures of Max in his bassinet the day we got home from the hospital.
Archive of the Day – Kissy Face
Leaving Max to go back to work became much more difficult once he became more interactive. We would play “kissy face” where I’d tell him I was going to kiss his “cheekies”. He’d smile and giggle with every kiss. He still does.
Archive of the Day – Perspective
Max decided early on that he really enjoyed grasping my finger, and would do so any chance he could.Monday Max- Scrub-a-Dub-Dub
Take baby, add water and soap, and, voila! Instant cuteness!
Archive of the Day- Out of the Warmer and in to the Bassinet
The best day in the hospital was when they moved Max out of the nursery and in to our room. It was the first real signal that he had made it through the scary forest of preemiedom and was entering the meadow of infancy.
Archive of the Day- If You’re Happy and You Know It
I picked up the little yellow elephant outfit at Osh K’osh when I was about 8 or 9 weeks pregnant and had no idea if we would have a boy or a girl. I was so excited when he was big enough to wear it- it’s tucked away now, one of my dearest mementos of his early days.
Archive of the Day – Heading Home
The buckle is almost as big as his face.
